Instructions for the Use and Care of CurTec Drums

Drum preparation and closure

1. Content temperature management: Ensure that the temperature of the drum contents does not exceed 70°C. Before closing the drum, the contents must be cooled to a temperature not exceeding 30°C.

2. Closure procedure: To ensure that the keg is leak-proof and complies with the UN mark, follow these steps carefully:

   • Place the lid on the drum.
   • Turn the lid clockwise until you can no longer turn it by hand.
   • Make a final 30° clockwise turn. The barrel is now properly closed and sealed, and the UN mark is valid.

3. Sealing the keg: To seal the keg, use Unisto "Compact" sealing tabs, following these steps:

   • Insert the tab tail into the sealing notches on the lid and keg.
   • Push the tail through the eye of the tab, then pull to secure. The keg is now sealed.

4. Handling: When moving the keg, use the handles provided on the keg body or lid. Be sure to comply with local regulations on lifting weights and handling frequency. Note that the handles are intended for manual movement only and are not designed for mechanical handling, such as hoisting.

Care and cleaning

1. Thermal compatibility: Drums can withstand temperatures down to -25°C. Protect drums from shock at temperatures below -5°C to avoid damage.

2. Expansion: Water-based contents can increase in volume by up to 10% through expansion, which can deform drums. To prevent this, do not fill drums to more than 90% of their capacity, and check that they are stacked securely on pallets.

3. Cleaning: To clean CurTec drums, we recommend :

   • Use of a cleaning system equipped with sprinkler heads or an Ultra-Sonic system.
   • Use a low-foaming alkaline cleaning agent with a pH of 10 to 12.
   • A cleaning water temperature of between 40°C and 50°C, and a maximum rinse water temperature of 65°C.
   • Cleaning time should not exceed 35 seconds, and rinsing time 20 seconds, to prevent the plastic from heating up completely and cracking.
   • For drying, use cold air or, if hot air is used, do not exceed 30 seconds at a maximum temperature of 65°C.

4. Equipment maintenance: It's vital to regularly check the thermostats and timers on your cleaning systems to ensure they're working properly.
