Duracool: what is it exactly?

Duracool is a refrigerant gas based on hydrocarbons (propane and isobutane). It allows the replacement of certain refrigerant gases used in refrigeration systems (refrigeration and air conditioning). More precisely :

    Duracool 12a replaces R-12 gas and R134a;
    Duracool 22a replaces R-22 gas;

But why replace these gases? Because they belong to the families of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). Three types of gas well known for their contribution to the greenhouse effect and the destruction of the ozone layer. This is why they are now banned on the market (or banned). Duracool is used to replace these harmful gases for the planet.

Note: If the Duracool can be used to recharge the refrigeration circuits (freezer, refrigerator, refrigerated truck, etc.), it is most often used for air conditioning, especially that of vehicles. As such, know that Duracool is not approved by car manufacturers. In other words, if you recharge the air conditioning of your car with this refrigerant gas, your manufacturer's warranty will no longer be valid.

What are the benefits of Duracool?

A natural refrigerant gas

Duracool is acclaimed as a replacement for certain harmful gases for its ecological qualities. Indeed, it is a hydrocarbon-based gas that does not generate a greenhouse effect or deterioration of the ozone layer. Moreover, the Greenpeace association, which fights for the elimination of HFCs in all applications where it exists, recommends the use of safer and more durable alternatives, including natural refrigerants such as hydrocarbons (HC). Which is the case of Duracool.

A high performance refrigerant

Duracool is also used for its good performance. Indeed, its cooling quality is excellent. In addition, since its molecules are larger than the refrigerant gases originally used in cold production systems (such as R-12, R-22, R134a, etc.), it saves money. at 45% of gas on the complete charge of the refrigerant circuit.

The use of Duracool in vehicle air conditioning also offers other advantages. Indeed, it is non-corrosive therefore, without risk for the parts of your air conditioning system. Its use does not require any conversion of air conditioning systems or oil changes.

Caution: If Duracool refrigerants do not require approvals to be purchased or installed in an empty CFC, HFC or HCFC circuit, they should not be used on circuits still containing fluorine (CFCs, HFCs or HCFCs). ), provided you refer to a professional and respect the law in force.
