Most requested sizes
Every side is a multiple of 20 cm, from 40 cm to 6 m. Here are the sizes people configure most often, with their capacity and their real price, delivery included. Prices are calculated at the moment you read this page. The size quoted is the outside, overall dimension, fittings included. The board alone is slightly shorter: 95 cm of wood measures 100 cm once assembled.

What height should a raised bed be?
Height is set in levels of 19.5 cm. One level suits lettuce, radishes and herbs, whose roots stay shallow. Two levels (39 cm) cover the great majority of vegetables: tomatoes, courgettes, beans, strawberries. Three levels (58.5 cm) allow deep root vegetables — carrots, parsnips, leeks — and save you bending down. Beyond four levels (78 cm) it becomes a standing bed: you garden upright, and the pressure of the soil on the walls becomes significant. Add a brace then, or fill the upper levels with a light substrate.
A bed is never filled to the brim: allow 5 cm of freeboard below the edge for watering, and 10 to 20 % settling in the first season.
Stepped raised garden bed
The configurator offers a stepped mode: each level can be smaller than the one below, set in a corner or centred. The result is a tiered bed, which exposes more surface to the sun and lets you arrange crops by how much light they need. It is also the answer for sloping ground.
Which shapes are possible?
The boards pivot on their connecting rod: the angle is not fixed at 90°. Besides the square and the rectangle, the configurator builds beds with 3, 5, 6 or 8 sides — triangle, pentagon, hexagon, octagon. For the same perimeter a hexagon holds more than a triangle: for a given volume, the shape that uses the least wood is the one closest to a circle.
The wood
The boards are northern wood (Scots pine and spruce), premium grade, natural and untreated — which makes it safe to grow vegetables for eating, with no treatment product passing into the soil. Each board measures 195 mm high by 20 mm thick, with a built-in slotting system.
Untreated wood in contact with damp soil greys on the surface and ages: that is normal and has no effect on the crop. To extend its life, line the inside with a perforated geotextile sheet, leaving the drainage free.
Assembly without screws or nails
The boards slot together. They stack and lock into one another; a connecting rod joins the boards along one side when that side is longer than 1.20 m. No tool is needed, and the bed comes apart as easily as it goes together — useful for moving or storing it. An assembly sheet is included with the order.
Delivery
The price shown by the configurator already includes delivery: no shipping cost is added to the order. Shipping is by DPD, in parcels of 30 kg maximum; the configurator shows the number of parcels before you order. For compost in large quantities, delivery is by pallet and needs a quote: the site must be reachable by a 19-tonne lorry and unloading is your responsibility.
Frequently asked questions
- What sizes are possible for a made-to-measure raised bed?
- Each side is chosen in 20 cm steps, from 40 cm to 6 metres. Height is set in levels of 19.5 cm. The most requested sizes are 60 x 60, 100 x 100, 120 x 60 and 120 x 120 cm. These sizes are outside, overall dimensions, fittings included.
- What height should a raised garden bed be?
- One level (19.5 cm) is enough for lettuce and herbs. Two levels (39 cm) suit most vegetables. Three levels (58.5 cm) allow deep root vegetables. Beyond four levels (78 cm) you garden standing up.
- Is the wood treated?
- No. The boards are natural, untreated northern wood, which makes it safe to grow vegetables for eating with no treatment product passing into the soil.
- Do I need screws or nails to assemble it?
- No. The boards simply slot together, with no tool. A connecting rod joins the boards along a side beyond 1.20 m.
- How much compost is needed to fill a raised bed?
- Capacity is the area multiplied by the height. A 120 x 60 cm bed on two levels holds about 280 litres. It is not filled to the brim: allow 5 cm of freeboard and 10 to 20 % settling in the first season. The configurator works out how many bags you need.
- Is shipping charged on top?
- No. The price shown by the configurator includes delivery. Shipping is by DPD, in parcels of 30 kg maximum.
- Can the bed be stepped?
- Yes. Each level can be smaller than the one below, set in a corner or centred, which gives a tiered bed.
