S60x6 Polypropylene Ball Valve - 3/4" BSP Male Outlet (Reference: 100441) by CPP. It screws onto the S60x6 male outlet of a 1000 litre IBC tank and adds a second shut-off point downstream of the container's original valve. Its 3/4" BSP male outlet takes all the usual three-quarter-inch fittings: tap connector, quick coupling, reinforced hose, irrigation timer.
The original valve of a 1000 litre container is made for draining: it opens fully, it sits low, and it takes both hands to operate. Using it ten times a day to fill a watering can or connect a hose wears its seal and eventually makes it weep. This valve screws on downstream and takes over that role: the container valve stays permanently open, and it is the small quarter-turn that does the work.
The other benefit is less obvious but just as useful: closing here lets you disconnect a hose, change a fitting or winterise an outlet without emptying the line or touching the container's valve. On a full tank, it is the difference between a thirty-second job and a puddle.
Most tank taps sold in France are in chrome-plated brass. It is sturdy and perfectly fine for water. It is much less so once the tank holds anything else: ammoniacal solutions, several liquid fertilisers and certain treatment products attack brass, which undergoes dezincification, turns green, then leaks at the thread.
The body of this valve is entirely polypropylene, like the rest of the CPP fittings and like the tank itself. There is therefore no galvanic couple and no metal exposed to the stored liquid. Check all the same that the liquid is compatible with polypropylene before fitting: no material resists everything, and a hot chlorinated solvent is not rainwater.
The S60x6 is a 60 mm buttress thread with a 6 mm pitch. It is the most widespread standard on container outlets, notably on SCHÜTZ tanks. WERIT, Mauser, Mamor and Sotralentz tanks are also suitable when fitted with an S60x6 male outlet and a gasket seat in good condition.
This is not a guarantee: the outlet changes from one model to another, and above all it changes when the original valve has already been replaced. Measure the outside diameter of the thread before ordering. If in doubt, our thread size chart lets you identify an outlet with certainty.
Clean the outlet thread and its gasket seat, then lay the supplied gasket flat. Tighten the swivel nut by hand until the gasket clearly seats, then go a further one sixth to one third of a turn with a strap wrench, no more. Overtightening deforms the gasket and marks the thread: it is the leading cause of leaks on this type of fitting.
On the outlet side, the 3/4" BSP is a parallel thread: it does not seal by itself. Provide a flat gasket or a fibre washer against the seating face of the fitting you screw onto it. Finally, support the hoses and pipework so that they do not pull on the tank outlet, and release the pressure before disconnecting anything.
