Nickel-plated brass ball valve female/female EZFITT Smart - 3/8 to 4 inch

A ball valve in hot-forged brass, nickel-plated on its outer surfaces, with a female thread at each end. It comes in ten diameters, from 3/8 of an inch to 4 inches.

Designed and checked to EN 13828

This is the European standard for ball valves in installations carrying water intended for human consumption. It sets the requirements for construction, tightness and endurance, and the maker states that design, manufacture and inspection all follow it.

Every valve is moreover tightness-tested at 100 % in the factory — not by sampling. That is the difference that counts on a part buried behind a wall or under an inspection cover.

What the nickel plating changes, and what it does not

The body is hot-forged brass, shaped under pressure rather than cast : the metal is denser and more even than a moulded part. The nickel plating covers the outer surfaces only; it protects against surface oxidation and gives a regular finish.

Do not confuse it with chrome plating, which is harder and brighter. Nickel plating is a protective finish, not armour: the valve remains a plumbing part, to be turned by hand and not with a wrench.

Tightness: twin O-rings and a blow-out proof stem

The stem is held by twin EPDM O-rings and is blow-out proof : line pressure cannot drive it outwards, even with the handle removed. That is a safety feature, not a catalogue detail.

The ends are BSPP female threads (parallel pipe thread, ISO 228-1) with flat seats : sealing is made by a flat gasket, not by tightening the thread. Do not force beyond contact with the gasket.

A reversible handle, and legible traceability

The red flat handle is reversible and carries the ON/OFF direction marking : refit it on whichever side gives the best clearance once the valve is in place. A data matrix appears on the handle and on the label, and leads to the technical sheet from a phone.

The marking carries the date of manufacture, the nominal pressure and the size, along with the range name. On an installation revisited ten years later, that is what tells you what you are looking at without dismantling it.

Choosing a size, and reading the nominal pressure

The nominal pressure falls as the diameter rises, as always on this type of valve : PN 32 from 3/8 to 1 inch, PN 25 from 1 inch 1/4 to 2 inches, PN 16 from 2 inches 1/2 to 4 inches. Check your line's working pressure before choosing.

The temperature range runs from -10 to +120 °C, which covers cold water, domestic hot water and heating. The bore is standard, not full: the ball is drilled to the nominal size, not to the inner diameter of the pipe.
