The LOFT log holder by Cookking, a steel column 120 cm high and 40 wide: plenty of wood stored on just 0.10 m² of floor.
The only one in our range that also stores the accessories: three levels (two for logs, one for kindling with a steel plate), a sliding drawer in the centre for firelighters and the lighter, and removable hooks that go on the right or the left for the poker and tongs.
Solid steel bars welded with no screws at all. Powder-coated and, according to the manufacturer, resistant to damp and bad weather: for indoor and outdoor use. Supplied ready assembled, weighing around 14 kg.
The LOFT log holder by Cookking (Reference: 333250) is more than somewhere to keep wood. It is a column of solid steel bars standing 120 cm high, 40 wide and 25 deep, which brings together on a single footprint the log store, the kindling, a drawer for small items and hooks for the fireside tools.
In most homes, the fireplace gear is scattered about: the logs in a basket, the firelighters in a kitchen drawer, the lighter nowhere to be found, the poker propped against the wall and the gloves somewhere on a shelf. The LOFT deals with exactly that clutter, and it is the only model in our range that does.
It combines four functions: two storage levels for large logs, a low tray for lighting the fire, a sliding drawer in the centre and a set of hooks at the top. When you light the fire, there is just one movement to make and one place to look.
All the volume goes upwards. On the floor, the column covers only a rectangle of 40 cm by 25, that is 0.10 m² — the footprint of an umbrella stand. It gives the best ratio between the amount of wood stored and the space lost in the room, which is why it is intended for flats, narrow living rooms and entrance hallways where a spread-out store is out of the question.
The trade-off is its height: at 120 cm, it comes up to roughly chest level. Before deciding where it goes, check that it will not stand in front of a light switch, a socket, a radiator or the opening of a tilt window.
The sliding drawer is housed in the centre of the column, at hand height. It takes the things that never have a place of their own: firelighter cubes, long matches, lighter, cloth, small knife, gloves. Once closed, it hides what is inside; it is proper storage, not an open catch-all tray on display.
The hooks are removable and can be repositioned: the manufacturer has designed them to move from the right-hand side to the left-hand side to suit the layout of the room. Hang the poker, tongs, brush or bellows on them, on whichever side leaves you room to take them down without contorting yourself. If the unit stands in a corner, this adjustment is no gimmick: it decides whether the tools are within reach or not.
The two upper levels are open stores, sized for large firewood logs. Splitting them into two tiers rather than one tall space has a practical benefit: taking a log from the middle does not unsettle the whole pile, and you can sort by wood species or by how well seasoned it is.
The bottom level is reserved for kindling, and it is the only one fitted with a protective steel plate. This is intentional: kindling is what sheds the most debris. Splinters, shavings and loose bark stay on the plate instead of spreading across the floor.
The entire structure is welded, with no screwed parts at all. On a 120 cm unit that may carry several dozen kilos of wood up high, this is a matter of safety as much as of durability: no fixing can work loose with time and handling. It reaches you factory-assembled, with no screws and no instructions.
The steel is powder-coated: the powder is applied, then baked in an oven. The manufacturer states it is resistant to damp, changeable weather conditions and mechanical damage, so it can be installed indoors near a stove, an insert or a fireplace, just as well as outdoors on a terrace or near a fire bowl.
A loading tip specific to tall columns, which the manufacturer does not give: always fill it from the bottom up, and do not leave the top level full while the one beneath it is empty. A tall, narrow unit with its weight concentrated at the top becomes vulnerable to a nudge of the shoulder or a child leaning against it.
It is part of the range from Cookking, a European manufacturer specialising in hearths and wood-heating accessories, and it is made in Europe. It matches our garden fire bowls and our outdoor fireplaces from the same brand, with the same steel and the same finish.
This item is not held in our warehouses: it is dispatched directly from the manufacturer's workshop. Check the lead time shown on this page before confirming your basket. It weighs around 14 kg empty: allow two people to put it in place comfortably.
