Set of 2 S60x6 Fittings with 1" Male Threaded Outlet for 1000 L IBC tank (Reference: 100230x2). A threaded outlet is not just for screwing on a hose: it lets you build a proper little system around your tanks. With two fittings, the most useful setups become possible straight away, with no need for a second order.
Threaded or barbed: what difference does it make?
A barbed outlet takes a hose held in place by a hose clamp. It is simple, but the connection stays flexible and does not cope well with suction. A 1" BSP male threaded outlet connects to all standard BSP plumbing hardware: valves, nipples, elbows, reducers and quick couplings.
This thread is what makes the setups below possible. It withstands the suction of a pump and can be taken apart without damaging the hose.
Linking two tanks together
Two IBC tanks, each fitted with one of these fittings and connected by a 1" female / female hose, work as a single two-cubic-metre reserve. The water level balances itself between the two, and a single draw-off point is enough to empty the whole set.
Place both tanks on level ground, at the same height: otherwise the lower one fills up while the other empties. To move or clean a tank, close both valves before unscrewing the hose.
A pump on one side, watering on the other
Water flows out of a tank by gravity, which is enough for drip irrigation or a watering can. For a long hose or a sprinkler, you need a surface pump: its suction port usually has a 1" female thread, and the fitting connects to it directly with a hose or a nipple.
The second fitting in the set can then equip another tank, or be kept as a spare. A 1" quarter-turn valve screwed onto the outlet lets you shut off the water without touching the tank valve.
Installation and sealing
The S60x6 female inlet screws by hand onto the tank valve until it meets the seal. Never tighten it with pliers: the plastic thread gets marked and the seal is lost.
On the 1" male outlet, wrap the thread with PTFE tape before screwing on the accessory. On a pump suction line this is essential: the slightest air leak will make the pump lose its prime. Before the first frosts, drain the fittings on any tanks not used over winter.
