Why five, and not one

The real cost of a drum cap is not its price but its shipping. For a 25-gram part, carriage often weighs more than the item itself. Five caps travel in exactly the same parcel as one: you pay the shipping once instead of five times.

Rotation: every filled drum ties up its cap until the drum is emptied.
Wear: the HDPE thread starts to mark after a few dozen tightenings, especially with a drum wrench.
Availability: an open drum you cannot close again means a product that goes off or gets contaminated.

The 3/4" bung changes how you work

The centre of the cap is threaded 3/4" BSP gas thread. You screw a tap, a hand pump or a dispensing fitting straight into it, without ever removing the main cap. The drum stays closed while you draw off: no splashing, no exposure to the contents, no dust getting in.

That is what sets this model apart from a solid cap. With five of them, you can set up several drums as dispensing stations and keep the rest sealed, with nothing to unscrew between uses.

Material and compatibility

The high-density polyethylene stands up to oils, most common chemicals and UV. A drum stored outdoors keeps its cap in good shape for several seasons.

The S56x4 thread is the standard on plastic drums and jerricans from 20 to 220 litres. Check the marking on the neck of your containers before ordering: an S60x6 or a DIN61 will not screw on.

Fitting and upkeep

The cap screws on by hand or with a drum wrench. Do not force it: HDPE deforms if you push it past contact. A clean seal and a thread free of residue are all you need for a tight seal.

Rinse the bung thread after any viscous or drying product, otherwise the next tap will not screw in. Store spare caps away from direct sunlight.
