The ACTO Grill'Insectes UV lamp with vacuum, triple action, and its sachet of attractant granules of 30 g, together: the lamp attracts by light, the granules by smell.
Flies and gnats come to the light; the mosquito, for its part, follows a smell. The granules mimic human body odour and are poured into the collection tray of the lamp — 15 g per application, two months of effect, four months per sachet.
Ultraviolet attraction, vacuum then electric grid: the lamp becomes a true mosquito trap. Silent, no smell, on the mains. A single parcel instead of two.
This pack brings together the ACTO GRILL'INSECTES UV suction lamp and a 30 g sachet of attractant granules for traps (Reference: PACKLAMP10). The unit attracts flying insects with light; the granules add attraction by smell. These are two different attraction channels, and that is the whole point of buying them together.
A Grill'Insectes UV lamp with vacuum works very well on flies and gnats, which steer by light. Mosquitoes hunt by smell first: they locate their prey by carbon dioxide, by perspiration and by body heat. A violet lamp does not tell them much if there is nothing else calling them.
That is exactly what the granules are for. Their formulation mimics human body odour, and that is the signal the mosquito follows. Placed in the unit, they turn a flying-insect lamp into a mosquito trap, including for the tiger mosquito, the most aggressive species and the hardest one to trap.
The granule data sheet leaves no doubt about the pairing: it states compatibility with U.V. lamps, mosquito vacuums, electric traps and carbon dioxide devices. The manufacturer designed this product to equip a unit like this one.
There is no assembly to do. The lamp has a collection tray located under the light source, the one that receives the captured insects. That is where the granules are poured, and it is the place the manufacturer indicates for a UV lamp.
The dose is 15 g per application, half the sachet. Do not put in more: overdosing does not make the unit more attractive to insects. One application lasts two months, so the 30 g sachet covers four months of use, that is the core of the season.
Write down the date you put it in place. That is the only follow-up to keep, and it is what stops the unit running with an exhausted attractant in the middle of the active period.
The lamp does not simply wait for the insect to touch a grid. Its principle runs in three stages. The violet ultraviolet light, calibrated on the wavelength that attracts the widest spectrum of flying insects, brings in flies, gnats and mosquitoes. A built-in vacuum then draws them inside: this is the stage that removes escapes, where a plain light tube lets some of the insects that came close fly off again. Finally the electric grid eliminates them instantly.
The vacuum is what sets this UV lamp apart from a passive mosquito trap. It works continuously, with no perceptible noise and no smell, and the unit stays powered from the 220 V mains: no battery, no runtime to watch, no recharging.
We have to be clear on this point, because the two items do not have the same status. The lamp on its own is a mechanical device: attraction by light, suction, electrocution. No substance is released, nothing is sprayed, and that is what makes it usable by people sensitive to insecticides, in professional kitchens or in food retail.
The granules, for their part, contain an active substance: geraniol, combined with attractants. They comply with European standards and are made in France, but they really are active granules, to be kept out of reach of children and pets, and stored dry with the sachet closed.
So the pack is not an insecticide-free set, and we do not present it as one. If the total absence of an active substance is your criterion, use the lamp on its own: it works on flies and gnats without adding anything. The granules are there for mosquitoes, which light alone does not attract enough.
The location makes the difference between a unit that captures and a unit that decorates. Install it high up, between 1,5 and 2 metres above the floor, and in the least lit area of the room. The lamp has to be the light point that attracts: placed next to LED lighting, a wall light or a window in full daylight, it competes with them and loses its pull.
Prefer a corner of the room, away from busy walkways. Mosquitoes settle readily in half-shaded corners: that is where the set works best. Avoid, on the other hand, very draughty spots, which disperse the attractant, and direct exposure to rain, which the granules do not withstand. The unit is intended for indoor use and sheltered terraces, conservatories and roof overhangs included.
In a large commercial space, the manufacturer advises multiplying the capture points, with a spacing of ten to fifteen metres between two units fitted with granules, rather than relying on a single station.
Start early. Putting the unit into service as early as April or May, before the activity peak, is not only about getting peace sooner: the insects caught at the start of the season are breeders, and each one of them stands for a generation that will not happen. That is when a trap does its most useful work.
Then renew the granules every two months, and carry on until October to take the last generations. The 30 g sachet gives two 15 g applications, that is four months. To cover April to October, plan for a second sachet.
The need is the same for the household and for the professional, but not on the same scale. At home, the set protects a living room, a kitchen, a conservatory or a covered terrace without releasing anything into the air you breathe. That is the decisive argument for families with young children and for people allergic to aerosol insecticides.
On the professional side, the unit is aimed at catering, food shops, campsites and open-air hospitality, swimming pool owners and local authorities that manage green spaces. In an establishment open to the public, a silent device with no smell and no spraying is often the only option compatible with hygiene rules and with customer comfort.
The lamp weighs a kilo and a half, the granule sachet a few dozen grams. Ordered separately, they ship in two parcels and you pay for carriage twice, once of which for a sachet that weighs nothing. Grouped, they make only one, and the carriage on the sachet disappears outright.
On an item as light as the attractant, that is the most concrete saving in the pack, even before the discount applied to the whole.
Maintenance comes down to periodic cleaning of the grid and the collection tray, with a soft brush to loosen the residue. Always unplug the unit before any intervention, without exception: the grid is live when running. A tray clogged with residue loses its pull, the granules as much as the lamp: that is the action that keeps the yield up over time.
The granules keep in a dry place, at room temperature, with the sachet hermetically resealed after use, out of reach of children and pets. Do not mix them with another chemical attractant: the signals get muddled and the set loses effectiveness.
The lamp is ready to plug in, with no assembly and no adjustment. The 30 g granule sachet allows two 15 g applications, that is four months of attractant operation.
