A 200 cm tripod whose grate is in stainless steel. That is the only point that really sets it apart from an ordinary tripod, and it is the one that changes everything once the season is over : nothing to oil, nothing to watch.

Stainless steel is no luxury on a hanging grate

A hanging grate lives outdoors. It takes the rain between two uses and the dew in the early morning, and that is what kills bare steel if it is not wiped. Stainless steel removes that constraint : leave it in place, it will not rust.

The trade-off is well known : stainless steel takes no patina and marks a little less strongly than bare steel at equal thickness. If you are after the branded grill mark, black steel does it better ; if you are after never thinking about it again, this is the one.

Two metres of height, and what that gives

At 200 cm the tripod gains 20 cm over the usual model. That sounds trivial and is not : the grate rises higher, so the adjustment range is wider, and you walk underneath without stooping.

The legs are powder-coated and the tripod is half-folding. It stores along a wall without being taken apart, but it will not go into a car boot.

Bars of 4 mm, wood or charcoal

The bars are 4 mm. That is thinner than on the black steel version, because stainless steel does not need the same mass to hold its shape over a lively fire.

It takes wood as well as charcoal, on a fire laid on the ground or in a fire bowl slid underneath. The grate hangs on a chain, at whatever height you want.

Choosing the diameter

Four sizes, from 50 to 80 cm. The choice rests less on the number of guests than on the size of the fire : a grate far wider than the fire stays cold around its edge and serves no purpose.

The height does not change from one size to the next. The weight runs from 11.5 to 13 kg.
