Raised skewer ring for Cookking grill plate - 2 sizes

A steel ring on three legs, which sits on your grill plate and creates a second cooking level above it. Its rim is cut into regular notches : that is where the skewers come to rest, laid across.

Skewers that hold their own place

The notches around the rim take steel skewers laid across the ring. Each keeps its spacing, none rolls, and you turn them one at a time without disturbing the others. That is the difference from a skewer lying flat on a grate, which pivots the moment you touch it and cooks on one side only.

The centre stays completely open. The heat rises straight onto the meat, with no surface in between : you cook over the flame, not by contact.

A stand for a wok or a pan

That open centre has a second use, and it is the one that gains most : you set a wok, a frying pan or a saucepan on it, directly over the open fire. The ring then works as a trivet, braced on the plate.

You recover a way of cooking that neither a plate nor a grate allows : browning, stir-frying, simmering, boiling water. And meanwhile the surface of the plate stays free for everything else.

Feeding the fire without taking anything apart

This is the point the maker puts forward, and it is a fair one : because the ring stands clear of the plate, you slide a log underneath without lifting the whole thing off. Over a long evening, that is what saves you from hauling everything out — hot plate included — each time the fire drops.

Two sizes, and you need the right one

The ring is chosen against the grill plate you own, not against the fire bowl. For a plate of 78 or 82 cm, the ring measures 34 cm, and 42 cm overall. For a plate of 98 or 102 cm, 38 cm and 52 cm overall. Both stand 20 cm high and weigh about 2 kg.

Plain steel: what that means

The ring is plain steel, with no coating, and the steel used is approved for food contact. No paint, no treatment : nothing can migrate into the food.

The trade-off is worth knowing : plain steel rusts if left wet. Wipe it after use, store it dry, and oil it lightly before winter. A dark patina will appear in time — that is normal, and it protects. Every part is welded; nothing unscrews.
