The ACTO Maxi Captures fly trap and its 125 g attractant refill, together in one pack: 225 grams of bait in total, enough for over three months of trapping with no gap.
Outdoor fly control device for the fight against pests. Catches up to 30 000 flies by scent attraction, with no insecticide at all. Designed for farms, cowsheds, stables and open buildings. As the attractant needs three days to mature, keeping the refill on hand saves a week of lost trapping.
This pack combines the ACTO Maxi Captures MOUCH 14 fly trap with a 125 g attractant refill (reference: PACKMOUCH14). The trap arrives ready to use, with its 100-gram sachet of attractant and its hanging cord; the refill takes over as soon as that first dose is used up. Together they add up to 225 grams of bait, enough to run a fly control campaign through most of the season without having to reorder anything in the middle of summer.
That is the whole point of this pack, and it comes down to a detail of the instructions that many people discover too late. ACTO attractant does not trap straight away: once diluted in water, it needs three days to mature before fermentation produces the volatile compounds that draw flies in. A trap refilled today will catch nothing for the first three days.
Add the delivery time of an order placed in a hurry and a run-out of attractant costs you a full week of lost trapping — in the heart of the season, which is precisely when insect pressure is at its highest. Keeping the refill on hand removes that gap: you prepare the new solution while the old one is still working, and the trap stays active without interruption.
It is also why a fly trap that stops attracting is not merely useless: it lets the population build back up. Flies that are no longer caught spread out over the surrounding area, and it takes several days after the trap is back in service to get back to the previous catch rate.
The MOUCH 14 is not a token trap. Its capacity lets it hold up to 30 000 flies, an order of magnitude that matches livestock buildings and the area around a manure heap, not a suburban patio. That is exactly where standard-sized traps fill up within days and have to be replaced over and over.
The principle stays simple and entirely mechanical. Scent attraction guides the flies towards the perforated lid; once inside, the insects cannot find the way out and drown in the solution. No electric grid, no glue, no fly killer diffuser to replace: the trap works for as long as there is active bait left and the reservoir is not full.
In the fight against pests in livestock buildings, farmers use it to protect cowsheds, stables and loose housing, where a heavy fly population bears directly on animal welfare, the calm of the herd and the quality of the work. Homes close to a farm or a manure heap follow the same logic: they need a capture volume that domestic pest control products simply do not reach.
The ACTO formula is built on two food-grade ingredients: 50 % yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and 30 % powdered egg. In contact with water, the mix starts to ferment and reproduces the smell of a decomposing protein food source — exactly the signal flies are looking for when they feed and lay their eggs.
No insecticide substance is involved in this trapping. The flies are not poisoned, they are attracted and then held. That distinction matters in a livestock building: there is no active residue to worry about on the animals, the feed or the surfaces, and the trap can stay in place with the animals present.
The refill comes as a soluble powder (SP), which makes it compatible with every fly trap on the market, not just the MOUCH 14 or the MOUCH 11 in the range. If you already own other traps, the 125-gram sachet suits them too.
The procedure comes down to three steps. Dilute the attractant to 3 %, that is roughly 30 grams of powder per litre of water, straight into the trap reservoir. Stir until it has fully dissolved, then leave the solution to stand for three days at room temperature before hanging the trap: that waiting time is not optional, it is what triggers fermentation.
At that rate, the 100-gram sachet supplied with the trap makes a little over three litres of solution, and the 125-gram refill a little over four. A refill on its own covers up to two months of continuous protection; together with the bait that comes with the trap, the pack stretches that cover beyond three months.
Once the trap is full, it is thrown away just as it is: there is nothing to empty and nothing to clean. The attractant sachet, empty or with some powder left in it, goes out with ordinary household waste.
Placement decides a good half of the result. Hang the trap one to two metres above the ground, preferably in a sunny spot: heat speeds up the release of the aromas and widens the radius of attraction. A trap in the shade still works, but it draws flies in from a far shorter distance.
Do keep a comfortable distance, because an effective trap smells strong and gathers insects around itself. Allow seven to eight metres from the doors of the house and six to seven metres from living areas — patio, outdoor table, play area. The point is to draw the flies away from you, not to gather them in front of the door.
In an open building, place the traps on the insects' usual route: near openings, water points and manure storage areas, upstream of the loose housing rather than in the middle of it. Store the attractant in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children and pets; should it come into contact with the skin or the eyes, rinsing thoroughly with clean water is enough.
One complete ACTO Maxi Captures fly trap — large-capacity reservoir, perforated lid, hanging cord and 100-gram sachet of attractant — together with a 125-gram ACTO attractant refill. Nothing else is needed: no bracket, no accessory, no extra product.
