Tripod barbecue 200 cm Cookking - Two stacked grills

Two grills hang one above the other under the same tripod : a large one below, where you cook, and a small 40 cm one just above. It is not a second fire, it is a holding tier, and the distinction decides how you use it.

What the upper tier is really for

It receives the heat that rises, not that of the embers. You sear nothing on it. What you do is set down what is cooked to keep it warm while the rest finishes, rest a piece of meat before carving it, and keep bread or side dishes warm.

Anyone who has cooked for ten people knows the problem : not everything is ready at once, and what comes off first goes cold on a plate while you watch the rest. The upper tier settles exactly that.

It also allows two people to cook without getting in each other's way : one takes the large grill, the other collects their pieces above.

Two versions, chosen on the large grill

The small grill always measures 40 cm. It is the large one that changes : 70 cm or 80 cm. There is no 50 or 60 cm version, and that makes sense — the point of a double tier appears once you are serving a crowd.

Both grills are steel with 5 mm bars, hung from the same 200 cm tripod, itself powder-coated and folding in half.

The heaviest of our tripods

With its two grills, the whole weighs 15.5 or 16 kg, three to four kilos more than a single-grill model. Worth bearing in mind if you were counting on moving it often or taking it away for the weekend : this one is made to stay at the bottom of the garden.

When setting up, plan to load the large grill first and only then fill the upper tier : it is easier, and it saves working above an already full grill.

What to know before ordering

The fire is built on the ground, with wood or charcoal, and the three legs stand on any flat surface. The tripod is made in Europe.
